MSW/MEd Licensure and AASECT Certification Requirements

Get on Track for Social Work Licensure and AASECT Certification

As you develop credentials for assisting individuals and families in your community, you’ll likely need more than a master’s degree to achieve your career goals. Many states require licensure and certification to offer the services and support needed in communities.

In our dual master’s degree in social work and human sexuality studies, you can establish a foundation for seeking social work licensure in most states and meet American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT) certification requirements. As a result, you can prepare to become a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and AASECT-certified sex therapist in our unique program.

Social Worker Licensure Requirements Across States

Each state sets its own requirements for the LSW and LCSW social worker licenses. Through the online MSW component of our dual master’s program, you can meet Pennsylvania Social Work License requirements, along with requirements in other states. Review information for each state using the links in the table below, noting that laws about policies relating to social work licensure vary by state.

States determine social workers’ scope of practice and the titles they can use. Consequently, titles vary. For example, the LCSW license signifies different things in different states. Additionally, most states have processes for reciprocity and the transfer of licenses from another state, although some will require you to go through the full application process as a new applicant.
